Cagnulari is widely cultivated in the North-West of Sardinia, where it was imported by the Spanish. It is characterized by small berries, with a very dark skin, rich in bloom. The aromas of Cagnulari wines are always distinct by red fruits, often with interesting spicy notes and soft tannins.
Vineyards are located in a flat area reclaimed by the marshes just 80 years ago. There is a variety of mixed soils, both calcareous and clayey, typified however by a good content of organic substance. The climate, characterized by hot and dry summers, in this plain is mitigated by the proximity of the sea and the breezes, which allow for a refreshing night.
The history of this winery stems from the transfer to the island of Sardinia of Mr. Giampaolo Parpinello as a wine consultant, now 50 years ago. Enthusiastic about the wines that can be produced by cultivating vineyards in the lands of Alghero, he has tried to enhance his professional experience by using the most modern cellar techniques to produce increasingly elegant and suitable wines for modern trends. The Parpinello family has also done a lot to recover the cultivation of ancient native varieties.
Vinification and finishing
Vinification “in red” with fermentation at controlled temperature for about two weeks. Drawing off before the end of the fermentation; filtration of the must and completion of fermentation in steel tanks. To soften the tannins, part of the wine is aged in cask for a few months.
Tasting notes
Bright ruby red color. It is an initially closed wine, which opens slowly to aromas of small red fruits and spicy notes. In the mouth it brings an initial acidity, with a taste of small sour red fruits, such as red currant. Even the taste opens slowly, becoming warm and full-bodied. Obvious tannins, a little sharp, with a long spicy aftertaste.
