Grape Variety
Usually cultivated in an area of Piedmont and in some places at the foot of the Alps. Nebbiolo wines always have a ruby color with garnet reflections, which turn into more orange tones after aging. These wines show fresh fruity notes in their youth; while over the years they often develope elegant notes of dried flowers, sometimes undergrowth. It can develop spicy, tobacco and goudron tertiary hints. Wines of constant good structure, whose tannins generally take many years to soften.
Terroir
Roero is a small wine region in Piemonte on the right shore of the Tanaro river. The soils are mainly made up of sandstones (sedimentary rocks of marine origin), often mixed with limestone or sand; they are very rich in mineral salts. The climate is particularly dry, with little rainfall which is not retained by sandy soils. During the maturation period there are always favourable temperature ranges. In some areas the vineyards have slopes so strong that people talk about of “heroic” viticulture.
Uomo
Antonio (everyone calls him Tonino) was among the first to understand the potential of this territory, founding almost 50 years ago the primitive association of winemakers, which would later give birth to the Roero Arneis Docg wine. Tonino has recently planted vineyards in an area where sandstone mixes with limestone, to obtain wines with good balance, ready to drink already in the year following the harvest. From these young vineyards he collects the grapes for the Langhe Doc.
Vinification and finishing
Vinification “in red” with maceration for 8-10 days. Aging for a few months in steel tanks. Marketing after a few months from bottling.
Tasting notes
Very intense ruby color wine. Interesting bouquet of red fruits, firstly of wild strawberry and raspberry, then cherries in alcohol. Wine with a marked freshness, elegant structure, with a slightly bitter finish. Tannins barely perceptible.
